Raw Organic Goodness

Little Bird Chocolate Macaroons
I have said it once, and I will say it again, a girl has got to have treats. Even if you are striving for the healthiest diet in the world, forgoing treats is in my mind the quickest way to fail. I find that when I deny myself the small pleasures in life, I really want to rebel.

So with this in mind I wandered into our local organic shop, and found these – Chocolate Macaroons. These babies are quite simply heavenly, and not only that they are raw, organic, sugar, dairy and gluten free. As usual my co-taste tester was my non – vegan husband, and he adored these!

One of the primary ingredients in these is Raw Cacao. Cacao is a superfood, containing the mood-enhancing ( natural!) chemicals Phenylethylamine and Theobroma. No wonder they taste so good.

All of the other ingredients are clearly labelled on the pack and include Coconut, Coconut Oil, Vanilla Bean, Vanilla Extract, Agave, Maple Syrup and  Himalayan crystal salt.

Little Bird make 4 types of macaroons, my other favourite flavour being Passion fruit and Macadamia. They also have a variety of other products.
Now I have to be honest and say these macaroons are not the cheapest on the shelf at $8.90 NZD for a packet of 5, but less than $2.00 a macaroon is a pretty good deal in my opinion for pure organic deliciousness!

You can order via the website www.littlebirdorganics.co.nz  and Little Bird does deliver overseas.
Note – Little Bird did not ask me to review this product. I just really really like them!

Question for today: What is your favourite store bought treat?

  • Sarah @ The Healthy Diva

Favourite store bought treat….hmmm that would have to be mrs. mary's pumpkin bites…i love the crispy crunch!

  • Anna @ the Guiltless Life

Ooh these look fabulous. Nothing like a good macaroon. I'm a big fan of sneaking pictures of ingredients lists on things in Whole Foods and then running home and trying to recreate the recipe haha. These are on my to-do list! Or at least, to-try :) .

  • Ali

Hmmmm, i wonder if I can get them here? Will search them out!

  • Ali

That's hilarious – I can imagine you going in covertly taking pictures! They probably roll their eyes and think "Here she comes again".
If you come up with a recipe do let me know!

  • Miss Signal

These are GREAT! I love going to the La Cigale markets and buying them from them there. A bit cheaper plus loads of smiles!

  • Ali

I know they are delicious! I wish I was in Auckland, then I would definately head to the markets:)
    Thanks for stopping by!

  • helene

mmmm i LOVE these, Ali. only problem is, my husband goes spare when i pop into Commonsense to do the weekly family fruit shopping and come home with three packets of Little Bird chocolate macaroons and….2 oranges (that is as far as my $30 limit will get me ;) )
have you tried the Mediterranean Food Warehouse's gluten-free choc cake? (served in the cabinet of delish goodies they have on offer as opposed to the sheleves)…to die for. that comes first equal as my fave store bought treat. equal placer is hershey's cookies & cream chocolate bar. i have been known to consume 8 in one sitting. revolting!

  • Ali

You know what I think my husband would do the same!
Ooohhh havnt tried any of those! I nver think of popping in there, will do now.
And yes, I can't even pretend that is not revolting.
